Expecting Goodness

dream

I’ve been listening to Joel Osteen’s Your Best Life Now audio book and while his voice tends to lull me to sleep, he makes some good points, one of which is the idea of expecting good things to happen.  So much of our success depends on our mindset.  What we see as possible guides our actions into creating what is possible.

One of my favorite authors, Rhonda Britten, writes about releasing expectations in her book, Fearless Living (life changing book, btw).  She talks about going into situations without expectation because it’s in our expectations that we find disappointment and fear.  I’m not doing her theory justice in this very short synopsis, but for the past few years I have striven to release expectations – mostly negative ones.  For example, releasing the expectation of “my boss is probably gonna be a jerk again today…” helps open the door for peace and contentment outside of what someone else does to us.  However, it seems that Joel has taken it a step further in the positive direction and encourages us to expect good things to happen to us on a regular basis.

I guess the trick is, think positively about what will happen in your day and if it doesn’t happen perhaps it will be easier to re-frame the situation positively if you’re already in the mode.  But we’ve all had those days where we start out positive and then shit hits the fan and suddenly we’re drowning in confusion and negativity.  Still I think it’s healthy to start your day with the expectation that good things are bound to happen to you.  There’s a stark contrast to that line of thinking versus going into your day thinking about what negative things are “probably going to happen to me.”

The short of it is, I did go into my day with that positive intention and I had a pretty great day.  Of course I got to work on some things I enjoyed at work today, and you know that helps a ton! 😉

I look forward to getting feedback from you soon.  I’m working on getting comments availability up soon! 🙂  I hope you had a great day and hey, expect great things tomorrow.
